Why did you decide to do a placement/internship?

I work with the PAS and GLOSS teams providing with guidelines, content for blogging and produced content for social media.

Career Connect

Application process

The application process was really simple. I applied for the position through the Careers Service web site (Career Connect) where the position was advertised. I emailed my CV to an email contact and the next day I had an invitation for an interview.

Main responsibilities

As Social Media Advisor, I was responsible for reviewing current guidance to students who successfully bid for places, developing enhanced guidance, and monitoring and supporting the use of social media by the students when on PAS internships and participating in GLOSS events in order to ensure that the students on the scheme use social media effectively to promote their experience. I also worked with other colleagues at a Faculty and departmental level in developing a consistent approach to the use of social media.

On a daily basis I would log-in to my personal account and start the day creating content for different social media platforms and design posters with InDesign and Illustrator.

What did I enjoy about my placement/internship?

My internship at Experience has taught me more than I could have imagined. As the Social Media advisor, I feel my duties were diverse, and ever-changing. Sometimes it’s tough to recall everything I have taken in over the past months, but I feel that these are some of the most beneficial lessons I have learned.

Challenging aspects

I didn’t know exactly what to expect about the working environment. The environment was quite relaxed, yet it taught me how to behave in the workplace. Simply working in the office and getting used to everything has definitely prepared me for whatever my next position may be.

Did you use any skills learned from your course?

As I was studying Business Management I had lots of opportunities to practice strategy, planning and communication skills. Working at the Faculty of Social Sciences meant that I was able to develop my written skills as well as build on my design skills. I was hoping to gain a good understanding of where my degree could take me and I think I have definitely achieved that.

Has your time on placement influenced your future career choice?

The placement helped me to find a career path, following and applying in accordance to this new work experience, the skills and capabilities I developed.
