About the placement/internship

Why did you decide to do a placement/internship?

I have been interested in the third sector/ charity sector for some time now as I have always had a desire to help people. The opportunity to work with a charity was really appealing to me for this reason. As well as this, the work that they were looking to do with Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) was quite interesting to me. The placement gave me the chance to experience working in the third sector on an area that I am particularly passionate about. Beyond this, however, the placement gave me the opportunity to stretch myself and spearhead a new department within the charity, creating a lasting impact.

How did you find your placement/internship?

Career Connect

Main responsibilities

My main responsibilities were research based. I was responsible for looking into the different elements required to set up am EDI department within the charity. As well as this, I drafted and created the various documents needed to declare the charity's dedication to EDI, such as an EDI Policy for the charity's staff and an EDI Strategy.

Typical day

I was given a list of tasks upon beginning my placement. When I got into the office I would typically get settled in before making a round of tea for everyone. I would then look through my emails to see if there was an event or meeting that I was required to attend. I created a specific task list at the beginning of each day and begin my research or document drafting.
