Why did you decide to do a placement/internship?

Wanted to work on a project that allows me to showcase my relentless curiosity and desires to solve problems for scenarios that directly affect an individuals life i.e. a students pre-entry experience, whilst developing professionally and gaining exposure to the varying perspectives of student and staff at all levels.

You sent a cover letter as to why you are a suitable candidate for the role.Then a video interview with two staff members.

What made you choose this organisation for your placement/internship?

I wanted to choose a department that dealt with students that I had no familiarity with. Wanted to know more about these students.

Main responsibilities

Research conducted with current foundation year students and previous foundation year students (ambassadors) to gather feedback on their pre-entry experience. Research into other activities/resources carried out in other departments/institutions. Research into other activities/resources carried out in other departments/institutions. A written report of findings and suggested improvements to our practice.

Typical day

Holding interviews with staff and students to gain their perspectives on the current pre-entry activities. Summarising key themes, analysing data, and sending e-mails to staff members

What did I enjoy about my placement/internship?

Speaking to a wide range of different types of people, who all had a different way of thinking.

Data analysis and piecing all the different type of information together

Did you use any skills learned from your course?

Time management. Statistical analysis. Project management. Critical analysis.

Has your time on placement influenced your future career choice?

It's influenced me to gain a career that is more people focused and directly affects the lives of individuals.

As a result of your placement/internship, what are your next steps in planning what you want to do after graduation?

Get a graduate job in a management consulting firm.


Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

Don't think there is a right or wrong way to carry out tasks. You are an individual and your different way of thinking is what will stand out.
