About the placement/internship

Why did you decide to do a placement/internship?

I wanted experience teaching in a completely different culture than the one i'm used to.

How did you find your placement/internship?

We had lectures and there was a representative that came and gave a talk.

Main responsibilities

I assisted in classes and sometimes took groups of children out the class to practice speaking.

Typical day

I would arrive at the school at 7:15 am and go to the staff room to liaise with the teachers to make sure i knew exactly what I was going to be doing that day. I would join in with games and activities in the classroom.

What did I enjoy about my placement/internship?

It was such a different experience to teaching anywhere in Europe and the reception from the teachers and students was so worthwhile.

Challenging aspects

The organisational aspect was difficult as there were always changes throughout the days and the weeks that I had to bare in mind.

Did you use any skills learned from your course?

I sometimes used Spanish when teaching.

Has your time on placement influenced your future career choice?

I have definitely considered teaching as a future career.

Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

South America is a very long way to go and it definitely wasn't an easy choice to leave my friends and family but if it's something that would interest you, just go for it, you won't regret it!
