I decided to do this placement because I am interested in education, talent and human resource development, therefore this placement was a great opportunity to gain insight into these fields.
Career Connect
First I applied by sending my CV and a cover letter. The second step was an interview with the organiser of the placement. After the interview, I was notified that I got the position.
I was responsible for collecting data about PhD training available and for putting together a questionnaire to collect feedback from PhD students about the training they participated in order to get a clearer picture of their needs.
In a typical day, I spent time with researching data from different sources and organising them and had meetings with my manager quite often to discuss further steps.
I very much enjoyed that I had the opportunity to do independent research and connect the findings to real issues.
There were many different data sources and a lot of data so it was very difficult to keep focus and make a decision about what information should be excluded and what should be analysed further.
Analytical skills and critical thinking which I developed as part of my course were crucial for the placement.
It reaffirmed my interest in talent development and education but it also was very useful to gain an insight in project management in general.
