Reflective Practice: Promoting Employability in the Academic Curriculum
About the placement/internship

Why did you decide to do a placement/internship?

I wanted to add to my work experience and develop my skills in a new role.

How did you find your placement/internship?

Career Connect

Main responsibilities

I was responsible for conducting a research project which explored how reflection is currently promoted and identified ways in which it could best be promoted in the curriculum.

Typical day

The project involved conducting a literature review; interviewing Directors of Learning and Teaching; surveying students; creating a website; and writing a report. For the majority of the placement, I worked independently in the library. The rest of my time was spent interviewing staff in their offices.

What did I enjoy about my placement/internship?

I enjoyed having responsibility for the project and so having the independence to shape it in response to the findings from each stage.

Challenging aspects

It was challenging managing this workload alongside other university and work commitments. Although by doing this, I have developed my time management skills.
