I decided to do a placement because I realised it will give me the opportunity to derive corroborative evidence of the impact of research, also enable me to make contributions in the field of research with regards to making funding possible for researchers as a result of reports from these case studies and I can build up skills in reviewing and reporting evidence.

Meeting with my line manager to discuss the expectations of the department and created an Action Plan.
Review of Impact Cases with line manager and discussion to give background and overview of the impact cases studies selected for the project.
Meeting and Discussing with authors of selected case studies on key areas of impact to guide and focus evidence collection activities as well with other stakeholders involved in the study.
Review of stocktake impact templates and indicators from high scoring REF impact case studies to determine preferred/most relevant impact evidence.
Collection of evidence available in the public domain and using impact tracking tools to gather evidence for use in REF2021.
Collation of the evidence found for each project and uploading it into the impact module of MyPublications.
Creation of an impact evidencing record and forward plan for each impact case study.
A typical day for me was structured towards looking for pieces of evidence for a case study.
Planning how to go about building the case study.
Talking to case study authors.
Replying emails.
Scheduling Meetings
Reviewing Impact case studies.
I enjoyed that I got to structure my placement like a project and also learnt alot about Impact in research and evidencing it. I did really enjoy every bit of my placement.
I had none. It wasnt much of a foreseen challenge, but the strike delayed responses from some stakeholders.
Stratergic thinking, I applied this effectively to my placement and effective communication.
I am actually thinking of doing an impact assessment for my thesis.
Take every oppportunity to do an on campus placement. It give you a possiblity to experience work life as well as builds your confidence to do things you never thought you could. It is totally worth it.
