About the placement/internship

Why did you decide to do a placement/internship?

Studying politics at university made me realise the passion I had for this particular area. I decided the best way for me to continue along with my passion and to further my knowledge and skills in this area would be to work alongside an MP and see how the day to day life of an MP works.

How did you find your placement/internship?

Through family or friends

Main responsibilities

During my time in Parliament, my duties consisted of time management, creating questions which may be used during debates and also researching different interests the government may wish to look into.

Typical day

Mornings usually consisted of looking over the previous days media to see what was being reported and what the public consisted of. Any meetings would also be held in the morning. Afternoons were based around which debates were being held in the chamber.

Did you use any skills learned from your course?

The skills learnt on my course were definitely beneficial, for example shortening down long briefs into quick concise points.

Has your time on placement influenced your future career choice?

It certainly has, I cannot imagine a career not based in Westminster.

Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

Take any opportunity you can and to not be afraid to ask questions and voice your own opinion.
